The Northern Way against the Abrahamic worldview: Part 1

The people of the North are ill.  They are anxious, depessed, consumed by materialism, addicted to screens, slovenly, no longer possessing a passion for health, beauty and excellence. They are physically weak and emotionally broken.  They have no sense of enchantment or romance.  There is a dull, vacant gaze of hopelessness in their eyes.  It is sad to see this, because the ancestors of these same people, until as recently as a century ago, were strong, hopeful, heroic men and women who created and maintained rich cultures and developed a civilization that was and still is the marvel of the world.

This sickness of northern peoples did not fall upon us overnight or by accident but by the imposition of the Abrahamic religion and worldview upon the hearts and minds of northern peoples. The Northern Way worldview began to disappear as the Abrahamic worldview, transmitted by way of Christian missionary and Popish power, forced itself over many centuries upon the northern peoples by sword, corruption, conniving, and emotional manipulation.  The heroic pre-Christian worldview inhabited the world of Homer and persisted in Beowulf, the Icelandic sagas, American frontier lore, and so much of the literature and music of European peoples. But it was a much diluted and weaker form. The Northern Way was forced underground by a genocidal attack of the Church on northern peoples.

How is the Abrahamic worldview as transmitted through Christianity so catastrophic for the North today? The Christian worldview denies the value of anything in this world. It sees Nature and mankind as evil.  The Christian scriptures deem anyone who celebrates beauty, strength, virility, and prowess as prideful, vain, sinful and evil.  The one and only thing of value for the Christian is that which awaits him in the next life and the savior who will deliver him to that world not of this world.  Christianity teaches the northern man and woman to say “no” to this life, to human will, power, health, creativity and beauty. Alll things that had been life-sustaining and enhancing to northern peoples for thousands of years – instinct, passion, creativity, imagination, sexuality, sensuality, the family, tribalism, conquest, prowess, and natural beauty – had to be repressed and erased from the European mind if Abrahamic religiosity was to reign supreme in Europe.

The Abrahamic worldview is incompatible with the Northern Way. Northern man and woman see an eternal and infinite Life Force animating and dwelling in all that is, within Nature and within man. Nature, inluding mankind, are part and parcel of the “Divine” Soul of European spirituality. We look not toward an imagined distant world, and we do not fear a distant jealous desert god.

The Northern Way is for those who reject the Abrahamic worldview, but this does not mean that the Northern Way man or woman is an atheist.  It is a false dichotomy to say one has to choose between the desert god of the Abrahamic faiths and atheism.  European spirituality, long before the arrival of Christianity, Judaism and Islam from the south, acknowledged the eternal and infinite Life Force within man and within Nature.  It was most commonly expressed as polytheism in the pantheon of Indo-European gods (e.g., Odin, Thor, Freya, etc.), but the ground below this polytheistic expression was the One, from which emanated a unified Force of Life (often represented by the Sun).

At Northernway.online we seek to reintroduce and celebrate the Soul of European spirituality. The Northern Way is for those who reject the Abrahamic worldview and who also reject the nihilistic emptiness of materialistic atheism.  The Divine exists, not as a desert tribal god but as the great Unity, the Life Force, the Soul, that dwells within us and in Nature.  The divine Soul expresses uniquely through the “soul” of the various peoples and cultures of the world, as mediated by their collective biology, experiences, myths, customs and traditions.

Nature is enchanted with the Divine.  We are expressions of the Divine.  We are part and particle of this Soul. When you embrace this reality, it changes everything about how you live and how you experience the world.
